Additional Runways Approved Under New Regulations

In light of the recent enforcement of Regulation 139 Subpart 5 — which requires all runways to be both licensed and formally approved for air operations — we wish to provide an update on the current status of runway approvals across key safari and tourism destinations.
The following runways have now been approved and are fully operational:
- Nyati
- Murray Ranch
- Thornybush
- Royal Malewane
- Beaufort West
- Plettenberg Bay
- Shamwari
- Phinda
- Nyara
- Sable Lodge
- Samara
- Bergtop
We acknowledge the efforts of Federal Air, who continue to work around the clock in collaboration with stakeholders across the aviation sector. They are assisting runway owners by preparing the necessary documentation for submission to SACAA. However, it is important to note that final submission must come from the runway owners themselves.
While progress has been made, approvals remain limited relative to the number of affected runways. SATSA continues to engage with relevant authorities and partners to ensure this process moves forward as efficiently as possible.
