Best time to go

November – February is peak season. The shoulders seasons September – October and March – April offer good weather and better rates.

Water in hotels and towns is safe to drink.

Travel tips

Anywhere outside of Stanley is referred to as the Camp (from "campo" meaning countryside). There are no ATM’s in Falkland Islands, and currency exchange can only be done in Stanley (not at the Airport). Credit cards are accepted. Toiletries may not be provided by your accommodation, and although they can be bought in Stanley, it is best to bring with you.

South African passport holders do require a visa

All visitors require a passport that is valid for the length of their stay and land-based travellers should also have travel insurance (inclusive of medical evacuation), a return ticket, evidence of accommodation and sufficient personal funds for their time here.

  • complete the visa application form and send it topermits@customs.gov.fk
  • supporting documents to be submitted with application: copies of all passports, medical insurance & copies of birth certificates of children (if applicable)
